About Vitor Reis
Vitor Reis was born in Angola in 1974. In 2001 finished his degree in Fine Arts at ESAD.CR in Caldas da Rainha. In 2007 he attended Maumaus Independent study programme in Lisbon.
Living from early age in Caldas da Rainha, city of great ceramic tradition and UNESCO’s Crafts & Folk Art Creative City, and descend from a family of three generations of traditional potters, he has also decided to adopt this media as a mean of expression.
Since the completion of his degree he has developed a career in the fields of sculpture and has exhibited regularly in cities such as Caldas da Rainha, Lisbon, Porto. He has also participated in International Sculpture Symposiums in several countries.
Currently he works in a studio sponsered by Caldas da Rainha City Hall and teaches in the "Product Design Course - Ceramics and Glass" at ESAD, Caldas da Rainha.

My work is part of everything surrounding me. I like to create contradictions, to propose new relationships, to make something that surprises me. I also like jokes: light, heavy, long or quick...
Ceramics give me infinite possibilities: I can act as an artist, as a designer, or as a craftsman without having to commit to any of them. I can continually experiment - that's what I like to do.
The pieces are created on the basis of total freedom. From the moment of conception and then technical adjustments are made consecutively until the final piece. They are made of different types of clay, different painting techniques and glazes, looking so to take full advantage of each piece.
